When You Just Want to Have a Baby

Sometimes, you just want to have a baby. Period.

I remember well the years I spent begging God for the gift of being a mom.

But can I let you in on a little secret? When I was on the mend from what we thought was M.S., doctors said I would never be able to have a baby because of the ravishing effects of the M.S. meds on my body–coupled with the fact that I was no longer a “spring chicken,” I prayed anyway.

Like crazy.

Then, when I shared that with an older woman, she said, “Now, now, Sherry–we don’t pray for things like that when we already know our condition isn’t going to get better.” I knew she meant well, but I prayed anyway.

Even harder.

Then I remembered all the times God brought about miraculous births in Scripture, and I prayed some more: “Why wouldn’t He do that for me?”

Then one day, I noticed a sign in the parking lot at Wegman’s with a picture of a stork and a message that said, “This spot is reserved for expectant mothers and moms of young children.” And YES, I glanced around and then promptly parked my car right in that spot. “As hard as I’m praying,” I thought, “I could be pregnant right now and not know it yet.” And YES, I started parking there regularly (Sometimes a girl’s gotta do what a gir’s gotta do!)

And not long after that, well–you know the rest…… If you’re praying for a baby or if you’re praying for anything else that seems like a longshot–if you’ve been discouraged from taking your request to the Lord by someone who means well, PLEASE pray anyway. You don’t know what God might do, but may it never be for a lack of asking that He doesn’t take that mountain in front of you and cast it into the sea.

Is anything too hard for the Lord?  Genesis 18:14
