But I Thought I’d Be Married By Now

New Missionary-on plane to Peru-still single . . . I couldn’t help bursting into tears. I was genuinely ready, excited and intrigued about what lay ahead, but I still struggled with why the God who once made the sun stand still wouldn’t see fit to send me the man of my dreams to serve with on the foreign mission field….so I cried on the way there . . . until I started reading in Isaiah.

I came to Isaiah 54:5: “For your Maker is your husband–the Lord almighty is his name.” I knew that didn’t come to me by accident. A few minutes later during a layover in Panama, the idea of buying a ring came to mind. I found one I liked in the airport gift shop and got busy writing out my vows….seriously, writing out my vows.

Shortly before landing at our runway-less jungle airport, we (the Lord and I) had a wedding ceremony in which I declared myself to be who I was–the bride of Christ. Then I slipped that ring on my finger, deplaned, and got busy.
