5 Godly Things God Doesn’t Want You to Do

Make a joyful noise to the Lord  (Psalm 100:1,2)

. . . without addressing the unrighteous outburst you splattered over your eight-year-old for acting like a second-grader.

Preach the Word  (2 Timothy 4:2)

. . . before you’ve loaded the dishwasher for Grandma Sally.

Esteem others better than yourself  (Philippians 2:3)

. . . when it’s only because you want them to bolster your own image.

Hide His Word in your heart (Psalm 119:11)

. . . just so you can look like a big shot in the eyes of others.

Be ready to defend your faith (I Peter 3:15)

. . . so as to humiliate unbelievers who you think should grovel to the cross in shame.

Been there, done that, and got the t-shirt on all of these . . . No reason for you to do the same.

It’s just so easy to justify ourselves, isn’t it?

      It’s a little scary, isn’t it, Barb?

  1. Great post, Sherry. Reminds me a little of 1 Corinthians 13:1-3. We can have golden tongues, great understanding, heaps of faith, a high tax deduction for charitable giving, and a burning measure of self-sacrifice, but without love, it all amounts to nothing. Thanks for helping us remember the “little” things which are most important.

      A very sobering passage, Sarah.

    Dear Sherry,
Creative and poignant. Really hit the spot. “Oh, Lord, search my heart and see if there be any wicked way in me.” “Judgment begins at the house of God.” What a Word you gave us today, dear Sherry!
